Kik Alicha ~ Ethiopian Split Pea Stew

A simple mild stew prepared with yellow split pea. Goes well with injera or any type of plain rice.

Ingredients

cup
yellow split pea
1
tbsp
coconut oil
5
cloves
garlic
chopped
1/2
inch
ginger
chopped

medium
onion
chopped

ground pepper
1/2
tsp
ground turmeric

tsp
lemon juice
salt
to taste
Instructions
Soak the lentils in plenty of hot water for 30 minutes
On an Instant pot press Saute mode and add coconut oil . Then add chopped garlic, ginger and onions.
Allow cooking the onions until they are translucent and add the ground turmeric, pepper, salt to taste. Mix well
Drain the water from the soaked lentils and add to the onions. Saute until the lentils are dry.
Add 1 cup of water and pressure cook high for 7 minutes. Once the pressure releases automatically open the lid.
Use the immersion blender or mash it through a masher roughly (optional)
Add lemon juice and serve with
Injera
.
Notes
Use a green split pea instead of a yellow split pea.
