Sprouts Sandwich

Sprouts sandwich are the best and healthy sandwich perfect for breakfast/lunch/dinner. This is a great way to include protein in your diet. If you have sprouts ready, then this sandwich is so handy to prepare. After making sprouts at home wanted to try something different other than regular salad. So gave this is a try, combined with all vegetables and mayo the sprouts taste was not dominant. You can include sprouts in your curry too.

Make this sandwich raw or sauté the vegetables and give a try. If you don’t have sprouts use microgreens or try without sprouts, even with vegetables and mayo combination it taste awesome with the goodness of avocado.

Sprouts: Great source of Vitamin K. This vitamin is critical to healthy bone growth, proper blood clotting, and many other bodily functions. 
Vegetables: contain minerals, vitamins, and nutrients.
Avocadoes: It contains more potassium than bananas and contains a good source of vitamins.

Variations

Vegetables : Choose vegetables as per your need. If you like to keep it raw use cucumber, tomato and onions. Use boiled potatoes if you like.
Sauce : Use any type of sauce you prefer like salad dressings, tomato ketchup or mayo.
Bread : Choose from normal white bread , brown bread, multi grain bread, sour dough bread.
Sprouts: Use microgreens in place of sprouts.

How to make sprouts at home?

I have already shared detailed recipe on how to make sprouts at home. If you don’t have time use store bought sprouts.

Steps for making sprouts sandwich

1: Boil your sprouts for 1 minute. Drain it.
2: Saute the vegetables, add sprouts.
3: Flavor them and add spice.
4: Mix Mayo with the vegetable mixture.
5: Roast the bread if you like. Spread avocado and sprinkle lemon juice on one slice of the bread.
6. spread the vegetable mixture on another bread. Add lettuce if needed.
7. Press both the bread gently and serve.

Can I use raw vegetables in sandwich?

Yes definitely you can. Use cucumbers, bell peppers, olives, tomato and onions. Chop all the vegetables finely and add mayo to it.

Sauce to mix in sandwich

I have used vegan sriracha mayo. If you like use any mayo, ranch or any tangy dressings.

Can I use sandwich maker or panini mixer for this sandwich?

Yes you can. Once you have arranged all the vegetables, transfer to the sandwich maker/panini press and press it for as long as you need. That makes your bread to hold more firm.

Can I eat sprouts raw?

Yes, you can. Mostly they are taken raw. Raw sprouts may contain harmful bacteria when you don’t do it in the right procedure. Homemade processes are not that harmful, because you know each step involved in making sprouts.

How can we cook sprouts?

Cooking sprouts lose some nutrients but you are still getting its benefits. You can cook by boiling, steaming, and stir fry in few drops of oil. While cooking we lose their crunchiness. So make sure you don’t cook longer. Just a few minutes will do wonders.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1.5 cup color bell peppers chopped
  • 1 cup carrot grated
  • 1/2 cup sprouts any variety
  • 1 tsp seasoning blend
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup vegan sriracha mayo
  • 2 avocadoes
  • lettuce, lemon juice optional
  • 8 slices bread

Instructions
 

  • On boiling water, add sprout and allow it to cook for 1 minute. Drain immediately. Keep aside.
  • To prepare the filling, heat the oil in a pan. Add onions and saute until the onions are soft.
  • Next add colored bell peppers, grated carrot, and sprouts and cook for 5 minutes in a medium flame.
  • At this stage, add seasoning blend, hot sauce, salt, and mix well.
  • Transfer to a bowl and add vegan mayo and stir well. Keep aside.
  • To assemble the sandwich, place one slice of bread and keep half of the avocado and press ir with the fork. Add few drops of lemon juice on top(optional)
  • On another slice of bread, spoon the filling generously. Add lettuce if you like. Cover the filling with avocado pressed slice.
  • Press the bread gently using your hand. Serve immediately with any sauce.

Notes

  • Use soft kind of bread, since we are not pressing in a sandwich maker. 
  • Roast the bread prior to arranging the vegetables.
  • Use lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers on top.
