Apple Oats Crisp

Apple oats crisp are the perfect combination of sweet and crisp in the crumble. To make it gluten-free I added an almond meal. This dessert makes your house smell absolutely divine. This Apple oats crumble has less sugar and can be taken for breakfast too. I didn’t add any sweetener to the Apples. No flour, no butter Apple crumble is a perfect vegan dessert.

  1. Combine oats, almond meal, pecans, coconut sugar, maple syrup in a bowl.
  2. Peel the skin of apples and chop them.
  3. Place the apples in a baking tray. Top them with oats mixture.

You can try adding peaches instead of apples.
Add sweetener to apples. You can try cinnamon powder or nutmeg powder leaving the vanilla extract.

What apple should I use for baking?

Red Delicious, Gala, or Granny smith. But you cannot go wrong with any kind of apple. Depending upon the apples the sweetness of the dessert level may vary.

Should I add sweetener to the apple?

I strongly recommend it. I didn’t add any sugar to the apple. It was so bland.

How to add sugar to the apples?

For 2 sliced apples, add 1-2 tbsp. of brown sugar and 1/2-1 tbsp. of coconut oil and give a stir. Then follow the same procedure for crumble.

Can I add flour to the crumble?

Yes, you can add flour to the crumble. Add an equal measure of oats and flour and increase the sugar level. If you are adding 1 cup of flour add 1 cup of oats and 1 cup of sugar with 1/2 cup of coconut oil.

Can I add oat flour instead of rolled oats?

I don’t suggest you add oat flour. If adding oat flour you lose the crispiness on the top layer.

What are the difference between apple pie, crisp, and crumble?

The common between them is they are baked with fresh apples and pastry and flavoring.
Apple pie: The fruit is baked between pastry and both fruit and dough are soft.
Apple crisp: Crisp and crumble don’t have a major difference. Mostly Apple crisp consists of oats, nuts, flour, butter, cinnamon toppings. They are very crispy and spread out.
Apple crumble: It is more like streusel topping often with flour and oats are not added. It is more of a clumpy topping.
Apple Cobbler: Baked with apples and topped with biscuit dough.

Once you bake with the available ingredients and how it turns out, name it. Whatever it is, the apple baked with pastry tastes yum.

On a preheated oven bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden and crisp and the apples are soft, cooked. When a toothpick is inserted into the apple it should be soft.

Apple oats crisp can be planned and prepared ahead. To meal -prep, in a baking pan arrange the apples and top with the oat and almond meal mixture. Wrap it tightly with a cling wrap and refrigerate it until use. Use within 3-4 days. When you are planning for breakfast or dinner keep it at the normal temperature for 15 minutes and bake it.

Things to remember before refrigerating.

  • Add lemon juice to the apple to avoid oxidation.
  • Add maple syrup as sugar may tend to leave the water. If adding less sugar it should work perfectly.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Once baked you will definitely get a crispy top.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 apples peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup ground almond
  • 1/8 +1 cup + tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecan
  • 1 tbsp coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • In a bowl combine oats, almond meal, pecans, coconut sugar, maple syrup, coconut oil, and vanilla extract and give a stir.
  • On a baking dish, arrange the sliced apples at the bottom. Add sugar if needed. Mix well.
  • Spread the oat mixture all over the apple and bake for 30 minutes or the top is golden and crisp and the apples are soft, cooked.( When a toothpick inserted into the apple it should be soft.)
  • Serve warm with icecream, vegan custard, or coconut whipping cream.

  • My apples were bland. Add sugar to your apples if you like.
  • For 2 apples add 1-2 of sugar and 1/2-1 tbsp of coconut oil.
  • If you are not going to bake immediately add lemon juice to the apple.
